Vibe Coding & App Rescue: Ship at AI Speed, Fix with Human Precision

Vibe Coding Is Fun — Until It Breaks in Production.
Here's How We Fix AI-Generated Bugs Fast.

You used ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor to build something. It worked on localhost. Then production exploded. This is the technical deep-dive into why AI-generated code breaks, what those bugs actually look like, and how our engineers fix them with metrics to prove it.

What Is Vibe Coding?

"Vibe coding" is the practice of prompting an AI — ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Copilot — to write full features, components, or entire applications with little manual authorship. It's fast, it's fun, and it works surprisingly well for happy-path demos.

The problem? AI doesn't know your production environment. It doesn't know your database schema has 80k rows. It doesn't know your auth middleware intercepts certain headers. It doesn't know your Vercel Edge runtime strips fs calls. It writes code that looks correct and runs in isolation — then detonates under real load.

The core tension:

AI models are trained to produce plausible code — not correct code for your specific context. The gap between "looks right" and "works in production" is exactly where bugs live.

The 4 Bug Categories AI Code Always Gets Wrong

Async / Race Conditions

AI writes await in the wrong places, forgets to handle promise rejections, and creates subtle race conditions that only appear under concurrent load. Classic in Next.js API routes.

Hydration Mismatches

Server renders one thing, client expects another. AI-generated components that use Date.now(), Math.random(), or window without guards cause hydration explosions.

N+1 Query Disasters

AI happily writes loops with database calls inside. Works fine with 10 rows in dev. Brings down your server with 50,000 rows in production. Prisma, Drizzle, raw SQL — all affected.

Security Gaps

Missing input validation, exposed API keys in client bundles, IDOR vulnerabilities from trusting user-supplied IDs, and missing rate limiting. AI generates functional code — not hardened code.

3 Real AI Bug Fixes — With Code

Bug #1

Hydration Error — AI Used new Date() Without SSR Guard

A client's Next.js SaaS dashboard was throwing Hydration failed because the initial UI does not match on every page load. The AI had generated a countdown timer using new Date() directly in the render — different value on server vs client.

❌ AI-Generated (Broken) CountdownTimer.tsx
export function CountdownTimer({ deadline }: { deadline: string }) {
  // ❌ Runs on server AND client — different values = hydration crash
  const now = new Date()
  const diff = new Date(deadline).getTime() - now.getTime()
  const hours = Math.floor(diff / 3600000)

  return <div>{hours}h remaining</div>
}
✅ Our Fix CountdownTimer.tsx
"use client"
import { useState, useEffect } from "react"

export function CountdownTimer({ deadline }: { deadline: string }) {
  // ✅ State starts as null — only hydrates on client
  const [hours, setHours] = useState<number | null>(null)

  useEffect(() => {
    const calc = () => {
      const diff = new Date(deadline).getTime() - Date.now()
      setHours(Math.max(0, Math.floor(diff / 3600000)))
    }
    calc()
    const id = setInterval(calc, 60_000)
    return () => clearInterval(id)
  }, [deadline])

  if (hours === null) return <div>Loading...</div>
  return <div>{hours}h remaining</div>
}
Fix time: 47 min Hydration errors: 0 after fix
Bug #2

N+1 Query — AI Wrote a DB Call Inside a Loop

A client's dashboard was timing out after migrating to real data. AI had generated a for...of loop fetching user details per order row — that's one query per row. With 2,000 orders: 2,001 queries. Postgres was on its knees.

❌ AI-Generated (Broken) orders.ts — 2,001 queries for 2,000 rows
// ❌ N+1: one DB hit per order — kills performance at scale
async function getOrdersWithUsers() {
  const orders = await prisma.order.findMany()

  const enriched = []
  for (const order of orders) {
    const user = await prisma.user.findUnique({
      where: { id: order.userId }   // ← called 2,000 times
    })
    enriched.push({ ...order, user })
  }

  return enriched
}
✅ Our Fix — 1 query total orders.ts
// ✅ Prisma include — single JOIN query, instant at any scale
async function getOrdersWithUsers() {
  return prisma.order.findMany({
    include: {
      user: {
        select: {
          id: true,
          name: true,
          email: true,
        }
      }
    },
    orderBy: { createdAt: "desc" },
  })
}
Queries: 2,001 → 1 Response time: 14.2s → 180ms
Bug #3

Unhandled Promise Rejection Crashing Node.js API Route

A Next.js API route was randomly returning 500 in production, but worked fine locally. The AI had written async logic with no error handling — a single failed third-party fetch was crashing the entire route handler.

❌ AI-Generated (Broken) app/api/notify/route.ts
export async function POST(req: Request) {
  const { userId, message } = await req.json()

  // ❌ No try/catch — if Slack is down, this crashes
  await fetch("https://hooks.slack.com/...", {
    method: "POST",
    body: JSON.stringify({ text: message }),
  })

  await db.notification.create({ data: { userId, message } })

  return Response.json({ ok: true })
}
✅ Our Fix — resilient, typed, logged app/api/notify/route.ts
import { NextResponse } from "next/server"
import { z } from "zod"

const BodySchema = z.object({
  userId: z.string().uuid(),
  message: z.string().min(1).max(500),
})

export async function POST(req: Request) {
  try {
    const body = BodySchema.parse(await req.json())

    // ✅ Fire-and-forget Slack — don't block on third-party
    fetch("https://hooks.slack.com/...", {
      method: "POST",
      body: JSON.stringify({ text: body.message }),
    }).catch((err) => console.error("[slack]", err))

    await db.notification.create({ data: body })

    return NextResponse.json({ ok: true })
  } catch (err) {
    console.error("[notify]", err)
    return NextResponse.json(
      { error: "Invalid request" }, { status: 400 }
    )
  }
}
500 errors: ~12/day → 0 Input validation: None → Zod schema

Real Metrics: Before vs After

Before: Vibe-Coded Codebase

  • ❌ Hydration errors on every deploy
  • ❌ API routes crashing under load
  • ❌ 14s dashboard load with 2k rows
  • ❌ No input validation on any endpoint
  • ❌ Race conditions in async flows
  • ❌ Env secrets leaking into client bundle

After: LyzersLab Debug Pass

  • ✅ Zero hydration errors
  • ✅ Stable routes with full error handling
  • ✅ 180ms dashboard — Lighthouse 94
  • ✅ Zod validation on every API route
  • ✅ All async flows tested under concurrency
  • ✅ Server-only secrets fully isolated

Our 5-Step AI Bug Debugging Workflow

  1. Static Analysis + AI Diff Audit

    We run ESLint, TypeScript strict mode, and a custom AI prompt that reviews your code specifically for vibe-coding anti-patterns — race conditions, missing guards, N+1 queries, exposed secrets.

  2. Runtime Tracing in Staging

    We reproduce the exact production environment with real data volumes. Hydration errors, timing bugs, and edge-case crashes that don't show locally all surface here.

  3. Root Cause Isolation

    We trace each bug to its actual source — not just where it throws. AI-generated bugs often have symptoms 10 layers above the root cause. We go all the way down.

  4. Fix + Unit Test + Load Test

    Every fix ships with a unit test that would have caught the original bug. For performance fixes we run before/after load tests with 50–500 concurrent users. Numbers don't lie.

  5. Documented Delivery

    You get a clear write-up of every change: what was broken, why, what we changed, and what metric proves it's fixed. No mystery PRs.
