MuRu Product Add-Ons lets an EasyStore shop sell extras with a product: gift wrap, a bigger box, an engraved name, a message card. You add fields to your product pages, the buyer fills them in, and each priced choice is charged as its own line in EasyStore's cart.

Independent product. EasyStore is made by JoomShaper. MuRu Product Add-Ons is made by Lyzerslab and is not made, sold, supported or endorsed by JoomShaper.

What it does

Fields on the product page. Checkbox, dropdown, radio and short text fields above EasyStore's own Add to cart button, with a live total of what the choices add.
Charged by EasyStore. Each priced choice is its own cart line, so EasyStore's tax, coupons, checkout, invoice and payment handle it like any product.
Checked on the server. A product with a required add-on cannot be added to the cart, or ordered, without it.
Listed where it matters. The cart drawer, checkout and the order emails list each choice under its product, and the choices are saved with the order.

Add-ons or variants?

Use EasyStore's variants when each combination is a different item with its own stock, such as a colour or a size. Use add-ons for choices on top of the product that should not multiply your variants: gift wrap, engraving, a box, a message.

How it fits with EasyStore

It is its own plugin with its own files, tables and settings. It does not change your template, your template overrides or EasyStore's files, so updates to either do not remove it. See Template and EasyStore Updates.

MuRu Product Add-Ons comes as two add-ons. The free one does the core job on its own. Pro is a second plugin that installs on top of it and widens what you can set up once you enter a license key.

In the free add-on

Checkbox, dropdown, radio and short text fields.
A fixed price per field or per option.
Groups for the products you pick.
Up to 3 fields per product (the first 3, in the order you set them up).
Required fields, help text, placeholders and length limits.

In Pro

More field types: long text, number and date.
More ways to price: a percentage of the product's price, per character typed, or per unit entered.
Wider groups: whole categories, or every product.
Any number of fields per product.
Updates through Joomla with your license key.

If a license ends

The free limits apply again and your shop keeps working. A field or group that needs Pro is not shown in the shop, but it stays saved, marked "needs Pro" in the settings, and comes back when the license is active again.

Install the free add-on

Download the free package from your Lyzerslab dashboard.
In Joomla, open System, Install, Extensions and upload pkg_muruproductaddons.
The plugin is switched on for you. A message tells you where its settings are.

Open the settings

Go to System, Plugins and open System - MuRu Product Add-Ons for EasyStore. The Add-on groups tab is where you set up your fields.

Updates

New versions appear in Joomla's own update screen (System, Update, Extensions). Your groups, fields and the buyers' choices are kept.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling removes the add-on's files, settings and tables, and takes its add-on lines out of open carts. Past orders keep their lines and choices. The hidden add-on products stay in EasyStore, unpublished, because past orders show them.

A group is a set of fields shown together on the products you choose. Set them up on the Add-on groups tab of the plugin settings.

Add a group

Press the add button under Groups.
Group name: for you only, to find it in the list.
Show this group: switch a group off without deleting it.
Show on: Products I pick, then choose them in Products. (Pro adds Products in categories I pick and All products.)
Add its Fields, top to bottom in the order buyers see them.

Each field

Label: shown to the buyer, and in the cart, the order and the emails.
Type: Checkbox (yes or no), Dropdown, Radio buttons or Short text. (Pro adds Long text, Number and Date.)
Required: the product cannot be added to the cart, or ordered, without it.
Price and Price is: for a checkbox or a text field. A dropdown or radio field has Options instead, each with its own price.
Longest text: for text fields, in characters (0 uses 100 for short text).
Placeholder and Help text: optional.

Several groups can show on one product. The free edition shows the first 3 fields of a product, counting across its groups.

Renaming is safe

Every field and option gets a permanent id when you save. You can rename a field or reorder options and the choices already in carts and orders stay attached.

Each priced choice is charged as its own line in EasyStore's cart, under a hidden product the add-on makes for it. EasyStore then treats it like any product.

How a price is charged

A ticked checkbox, a filled-in text field or a chosen option with a price adds a line such as Gift wrap or Box: Large.
Prices are charged once per piece of the product: two pieces with gift wrap add two gift wraps.
A price of 0 adds no line; the choice is still listed under the product.
Prices are set in the shop's main currency.

Tax, coupons and categories

An add-on line takes the product's category and tax setting, so EasyStore's tax rules and category coupons treat the product and its add-ons alike.

The hidden add-on products

They are unpublished: the shop never lists them and their page cannot be opened. You will see them in EasyStore's product list in the administrator, marked unpublished. Leave them there; past orders show their lines. When you change a price in the settings, the hidden product follows it.

Pro adds a percentage of the product price, a price per character typed and a price per unit entered. See More Ways to Price.

Is this made by JoomShaper?

No. EasyStore is made by JoomShaper. MuRu Product Add-Ons is an independent extension from Lyzerslab.

How are the prices charged?

Each priced choice is its own line in EasyStore's cart, so EasyStore's tax, coupons, checkout, invoice and payment handle it. The add-on never changes a product's price or a total itself.

Will the hidden add-on products show in my shop?

No. They are unpublished. Leave them in EasyStore's product list: past orders show their lines.

Can a buyer skip a required add-on?

No. It is checked on the server when the product reaches the cart and again at checkout.

Will a template or EasyStore update remove it?

No. It is its own plugin and never edits the template or EasyStore's files.

Do I need Pro?

No. The free add-on covers checkbox, dropdown, radio and text fields with fixed prices. Pro adds long text, numbers and dates, more ways to price, category-wide groups and any number of fields.

What happens if my Pro license ends?

The free limits apply again and every saved field and group stays saved.

The product page helps the buyer, and the server makes sure nothing is sold without its choices.

On the product page

When the buyer presses Add to cart (or Buy now), a required field left empty, a text that is too long or a number out of range stops the add. A message appears next to the field and a line above the button says to check the options.

On the server

Every choice is checked again when the product reaches the cart. Prices come from your settings, never from the browser.
A product with a required add-on is refused without it, with a message the buyer can read.
At checkout, a product that needs its add-ons and has none is refused: the buyer is asked to remove it and add it again from its product page.
Typed text is stored as plain text, without HTML.

The choices appear wherever EasyStore lists the items of a cart or an order.

In the cart drawer and at checkout

The product's line lists the choices, for example Gift wrap: Yes and Engraving: Anna.
Each priced add-on is its own line that says which product it is for, and what was typed for a text field.
Add-on lines have no quantity buttons: their quantity follows the product's, and they leave the cart with it.

On the order

The choices are saved with the order. Both order confirmation emails, the buyer's and the shop's, list them under the product.

\nFor a product with variants, EasyStore's own order page and invoice show the variant name on the product's line. The priced choices are still listed on their own add-on lines.\n

The license box in the Pro plugin shows the key's state and lets you check it at any time.

What the box shows

The key on this site, its state and until when it is valid.
Installed version and Last verified.
Update server: whether Joomla's update check sends your key.

Buttons

Verify now: asks the store about the key at once.
Check for updates: says whether a newer version is available. Install it from Joomla's own update screen.

\nThe key is checked again by itself about once an hour. If the store cannot be reached, the last confirmed state is kept.\n

What each message in the license box means.

Messages

Pro is active on this site. All set.
No license key. Pro is installed but off; the free add-on keeps working. Enter your key.
The license server could not be reached. The key is saved and checked again automatically. Nothing changes meanwhile.
Expired. Renew in your dashboard to switch Pro back on.
Not recognised, or revoked. Copy the key again from your dashboard.
Belongs to a different product. Use the key for MuRu Product Add-Ons.
No free site left. Free one under My Products, then check again.
The Pro plugin is switched off. Enable it in System, Plugins.

MuRu Product Add-Ons is built so that template and EasyStore updates do not remove it.

Why updates do not remove it

No template overrides, and no edits to EasyStore's files.
Its own plugin, media folder, tables and settings.
Prices are EasyStore cart lines, so EasyStore's own checkout and payment handle them.

What it writes in EasyStore's data

The hidden, unpublished add-on products.
Add-on lines in a visitor's own cart.
The choices, added to the order's own copy of each line.

If EasyStore changes its product page

The fields hide themselves, and a product with required add-ons is refused with a message, so nothing is sold without its choices. Check one product with add-ons, the cart and checkout after each EasyStore update.

If the fields do not show on a product page, check these in order.

Checklist

The plugin System - MuRu Product Add-Ons for EasyStore is enabled.
The group is switched on (Show this group) and the product is picked in Products.
The field has a label. A dropdown or radio field needs at least one option with a label.
The field's type and price rule are available. A field marked \"needs Pro\" shows only with an active Pro license.
The free edition shows the first 3 fields of a product.
You are on EasyStore's own product page, with its Add to cart button.

Switch on Debug on the Compatibility tab, open the product page and the browser console, and type MuRuProductAddons.status(). Each part says ok or why it switched off.

A product was refused with \"Choose the options first\"

It has a required add-on and was added from somewhere without the fields, such as the quick-add window on a product list. Add it from its product page.

Adding the same product again replaced the choices

EasyStore keeps one cart line per product and variant, so a product carries one set of choices in a cart. The last choices win and the quantity adds up.

A product asks to be added again at checkout

Its choices were lost, for example when EasyStore joined a guest cart into a customer's cart at login. Remove it and add it again from its product page.

I switched the plugin off and add-on lines stayed in carts

Lines already in open carts stay without their checks. Switch the plugin back on, or empty those carts.
